Tea room

Our tea rooms are situated at the very top of the garden, giving visitors magnificent views across the walled garden, set against the backdrop of the Shropshire Hills.

We run a quintessentially British tearoom service through the day, with indoor and outdoor seating.

We serve tea, coffee, cake and scones. We offer a small selection of light lunches between 12pm and 2pm. Our homemade cakes are varied weekly and we use, where possible, fresh seasonal produce grown in our kitchen garden. A gluten free option is always available and everything is served on beautiful Burleigh Ware, handmade in England.

There is wheelchair access to the tearoom and a disabled WC.

The Nursery

Wildegoose Nursery started back in 2011 as specialist growers of hardy perennial and scented violas. The Violas remain at the heart of our business, but our passion for plants has always extended beyond this to encompass a diverse range of flowering perennials and grasses, which we offer for sale alongside our violas on the nursery.

Our sales plants are propagated on site from seed, cuttings and divisions (with the exception of those plants that exercise a PVR) to ensure that the plants you buy are the progeny of those you see growing in the garden.

We garden in sympathy with nature and do not use chemicals, and have also started using peat-free compost for our herbaceous plants.

The Garden

The 2 acre Walled Garden is entered through the plant sales area, which showcases the plants we love to grow and hopefully many inspiring combinations of colours and forms to give you ideas for your own garden. The garden is modern rather than a traditional restoration of a Kitchen Garden. This was a deliberate decision to create a new garden in a historic setting that reflected the many beautiful gardens, inspiring plantsmen and their plants that have influenced us from our training days at RHS Wisley, through our travels across Britain and Northern Europe. The way we design and garden here at Wildegoose Nursery is very much driven by the plants themselves and how they combine with each other. We are always experimenting and trying to improve on the end result.

The garden is young and while some areas are establishing quickly others will take time. The site is divided into a series of rooms divided by newly planted hedging. There is a plum orchard, ornamental vegetable and cutflower garden, crab apple walk and a series of colour themed ornamental gardens including: the Phlox Walk, Hot Garden and Floral Meadow. A network of paths lead you through the garden and bring you up to the Tearoom, with magnificent views over the garden and out into the surrounding Shropshire countryside. Here you can sit and enjoy lunch, or tea and a delicious slice of homemade cake. Alongside the Tearoom are the Glasshouses, which are newly restored and recently opened to the public. We are currently in the process of putting them back into productive use and replanting with fruits, vegetables and ornamentals after years of laying empty. They are also the venue for a series of Courses & Events we hold throughout the year on horticultural, floristry and culinary topics.
