Tregothnan puts the English into English tea for the first time in history. We began supplying England’s first and only tea in 2005, to create this inimitable Britishness. Tea now thrives at Tregothnan by the deep sea creek of the River Fal in Cornwall. A diversity of lands also allows us to produce sustainable coppiced charcoal, Manuka and Cornish wildflower honeys, and our unique Kea plum jam. Seasonal English flowers are sourced from the Tregothnan estate and surrounding lands for our range of beautifully British bouquets, and we can also invite you to experience Tregothnan through our Private Garden Visits and Wild Escapes holiday cottages.

 

Tregothnan has been home to the Boscawen family since 1335. The private estate, in Cornwall and Kent, is internationally known as the home of English tea.
Inspired by a tradition stretching back generations, we began supplying England’s first and only tea (Camellia sinensis) in 2005, although Tregothnan is believed to be the first place to grow ornamental Camellias outdoors almost 200 years earlier.
As well as growing English tea, a diversity of lands also allows us to produce sustainable coppiced charcoal, Manuka honey and Kea plum jam. Seasonal British flowers are sourced from the Tregothnan estate and surrounding lands for our range of hand-tied English bouquets.

Living Estate
The concept of a living country estate may be one that some people believe has already been consigned to the history books. Tregothnan is living and breathing proof that the working estate is as relevant today as in our past.
Tregothnan is a place where generations of families have lived and worked the land. Our tenant farmers offer some of the finest and most diverse produce in Cornwall and Kent and we make use of this in our Tregothnan product range and at our restaurant, Smugglers. Our English tea, Manuka honey, flowers, and Kea Plums are all produced on Tregothnan land and come together to create one delicious final result.
The working estate is a place where traditional skills and craftsmanship still survive and thrive; the same joinery team that maintains Tregothnan House also crafts our gates, fences and garden furniture, whilst the horticultural skills gleaned from generations of gardeners inspire our range of seasonal British flower bouquets. Perhaps most importantly everything we do and create bears sustainability in mind; after all, Tregothnan has been a working estate since 1335, and we have big plans for the next 700 years…
