Welcome to The Cottage Herbery
Established in 1976, we have now celebrated a number of milestone anniversaries as a small specialist family run nursery, and hope to continue growing and supplying quality organic peat free plants for the foreseeable future.
You can now visit the nursery on our Open Weekends, RHS partnership days and as a pre-booked group. Go to our Events page for more information.
The Nursery is not open generally, only for pre booked or organised events.

ABOUT
When Kim & Rob Hurst first established The Cottage Herbery in 1976 it was with the view to growing quality herbs, aromatic & scented foliage plants primarily.
From the very beginning every plant at the Cottage Herbery has been grown naturally & peat free. The ethos of this being is if you are producing a plant for natural flavouring, healing and fragrance then that plant should be produced naturally. Now also grown on the Nursery is a reasonable selection of hardy perennials and the more unusual edibles.
The peat free compost we use and originally developed is approved and carries its own symbol as the only coir based compost to be truly organic, its trade name is ‘Fertile Fibre’ (visit the links page for the web address).
We care about the quality and health of our plants from every stage of their growth and by the comments from of our customers (many of which are long standing) they can be sure that once planted they ‘grow away’ well.
The Cottage Herbery is an award winning nursery having won numerous awards throughout its career, including the most coveted award; a Chelsea Gold Medal, on more than one occasion.
The Cottage Herbery is also a member of the Herefordshire Horticultural hub, a collective that promotes local grower, businesses and specialists.

SEEDS
We have a great selection for you to choose from, with each packet clearly labeled with growing instructions, it couldn’t be easier to get your garden growing.
On this seed list is our very own Cottage Herbery salad mix, this cut & come again salad mix is great in the garden, in pots, old wheel barrows (a cottage herbery favourite) and on your kitchen window sill. It has a lovely mix of flavours, subtle spinach to firey mustard flavours. All your salad needs in one great packet.

PLANTS
BUYING PLANTS
We don’t sell mail order plants. We care about our plants too much to bundle them into boxes in the post.
You can how ever order via phone or email & collect your plants from our nursery or (if we are able to fit them in) a plant fair, farmers market or show. We do need sufficient notice to prepare your order (also bare in mind we are not a garden centre we are a working nursery so all orders need to confirmed and a collection time arranged before visiting the nursery to collect them).
SHOW PLANTS
Information for Flower Show Exhibitors, Landscape Gardeners & Architects.
We can grow to order display plants for Malvern, Chelsea & Gardeners’ World. We have many years experience as exhibitors and know the importance of having good quality plant material to create a medal winning display. The plants we offer are not wholesale off the shelf plants, they will be of the highest quality and grown specifically for your needs.
We have provided plants for numerous Chelsea gardens from culinary herbs, vegetables, cottage garden flowers, a whole lorry load of 8ft Angelica’s for Savill’s garden, native plants and even buckets of Nettles!! We do the unusual and the quirky. We have grown plants not only organically but also Bio-dynamically when needed for a show garden for Weleda’s designer Annie Konig.
Our own achievements over the last few years have been RHS Gold & Silver-gilt medals, ‘Best in Show’ Plant Mall Rose Bowls at Hampton Court Palace and at Tatton Park we have won the title twice. At Malvern Spring we won the award for the most creative display with our extra large trug of herbs.
Very recently we moved into the Show Garden category helping Caves Folly with their Shepherds Garden at the Spring Show and then to celebrate our
35th Anniversary at the Autumn show we built the Old Kiln Yard working with Paul Taylor from Alchemy, images on the Show page.
If you would like to be sent a list of the plants that we have available please email us with your details and we will forward one to you. Email – enquiries@thecottageherbery.co.uk
