We are a small family run business, myself (Steven) and wife Elaine Hickman have been running Hoyland Plant Centre for the past 35 years. Over the years the business has grown and our children Colin and Heather have joined the team. The nursery situated at the foot of the Pennines in South Yorkshire, just off junction 36 of the M1.

The plant nursery is devoted to the cultivational and propagation of Agapanthus, Tulbaghia, Clivia, Nerine and Amarine which are all part of the Amaryllidaceae family. We have UK National Collections of Agapanthus, Clivia and Tulbaghia as we are passionate about the preservation of these beautiful plants.

We have attended all of the large flower shows for many years and have consecutively won Gold Medals at every show for the last 4 years. The highlights being selected as a RHS Master Grower in 2017 and receiving the converted double Gold medals in the great pavilion at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 displaying Agapanthus, Nerines and Clivia.

Over the years their has been many new cultivars developed here including Agapanthus: ‘Hoyland Blue’, ‘Hoyland Chelsea Blue’, ‘Margaret’, ‘Silver Anniversery’, ‘Pink Tips’, ‘Little Seb’, ”Little Frank’ and ‘Yorkshire Rose’. New introductions of Tulbaghia include: ‘Scented Beauty’, ‘Dark Beauty’ and ‘Elaine Ann’. NEW for 2020 we have released Agapanthus ‘Elaine Ann’ and Tulbaghia ‘Hoyland Pink Beauty’. These plants are part of our legacy and we continue to trail and develop new cultivars each year.

This website has lots of information on how to care for and propagate the plants we specialise in, as well as our online shop. We pack and dispatch all our own orders with care. If you have any questions relating to Agapanthus, Tulbaghia, Amarines, Nerines and Clivia please contact us, as we are always happy to help.

We are proud to have published a book ‘Success with Agapanthus’ which is available in hardback from our shop.
