A recently discovered annual species, Lathyrus belinensis makes an unusual and attractive garden plant. It is easily grown and strongly scented, although the fragrance is different to that of the related sweet pea, Lathyrus odoratus.

If you want modern large flowered sweet peas for the garden or exhibition, select the ‘Spencer’ option from the menu. ‘Heirloom’ varieties have masses of highly scented smaller flowers and give a more informal effect. ‘Dwarf’ sweet peas form spreading mounds only a few inches high and are great for containers and hanging baskets, while the ‘Winter’ sweet peas can be grown in the frost protected greenhouse to give bloom in early March from an autumn sowing.
