A potted history…

 Back in the late 90’s I was working as a garden designer, designing and building exotic and colonial gardens. As a plant collector myself, and being a passionate fan of hardy exotics, I grew many of the plants I used. Increasingly I found that clients would visit my garden and ‘home nursery’ to look at the plants I was describing in designs and projects.

 Well, the home nursery grew and very soon I ran out of space. It was during the grey chilly winter of 1999 that Big Plant Nursery was born. I managed to find a site and rent a small area of an existing nursery. From those early days we have exhibited at shows all over the country, won a Gold Medal at Hampton Court and established Big Plant as one of the UK’s foremost innovators in hardy exotic, architectural and mediterranean plants. The nursery is open 7 days a week, has a cosy ‘Jungle Tea Room’ and continues to expand its range of exciting plants.

 With over 10 staff we now send plants all over the UK and produce many of our own plants whilst also working closely with growers abroad. We are well travelled, always searching for new ideas and plants to offer for sale whilst maintaining the highest standards of cultivation and advice to all our customers.
