Lovania Nurseries Ltd is one of the UK’s leading horticultural pioneers, growers and wholesalers of bedding and ornamental plants. Plant production started in 1919 by my grandfather, James Ball. He produced flowers and bedding plants on a four acre site in Hesketh Bank. In 1933, my father, Len, and his brother, William, expanded the plant and flower growing operation to include an additional ten acre nursery on the current main site in Tarleton. From here the business supplied florists across the North West and developed an outstanding reputation for quality at wholesale flower markets throughout the country.
In 1980, I went into a partnership with my father and further developed the Tarleton site. From the beginning, the business has grown steadily, incorporating other local nurseries. In many cases, we have employed the former owners to work within Lovania and have benefited from their knowledge and expertise.
In addition to the main site, we now grow plants at 12 other nursery sites within a three mile radius, and grow in a total of 42 acres of glasshouses. Plant production currently runs at over 65 million plants a year in potted singles, four packs, six packs, ten packs, and twenty packs.
We are members of the BPOA (British Protected Ornamentals Association) and have achieved BOPP (British Ornamental Plant Producers) Silver and Gold Accreditation. We are members of the HTA (Horticultural Trade Association) and our production conforms to protocols such as the Tesco Nature’s Choice and the Assured Produce accreditation scheme.
Our expertise lies in production and distribution of consistently high quality plants to major supermarkets, high street retail multiples, DIY centres, local authorities, garden centres, and landscapers.
