Tynings plants is located in North Somerset on a delightful south facing slope overlooking the Mendip Hills.

We are the proud holders of four National Collections: Passiflora, Jasminum, Mandevilla and Thunbergia. We also hold a large collection of hardy, half hardy and tender climbers.

Our nursery is run by Jane Lindsay (member of the RHS tender plant committee) and Toni O’Connor.

Collecting plants has become addictive over the years and although we specialise predominantly in climbers we do offer a range of other interesting plants. Many of our plants are propagated and grown on the nursery due to their rarity.

We can be seen regularly (as Tynings Climbers) at all the major flower shows where we have achieved many Gold medals for our displays including six consecutive Gold medals at Chelsea. We also like to support independent shows and plant fairs.

During the winter and early spring we offer talks and presentations to Gardening Clubs and societies.

Leading up to the festive period we also offer high quality wreaths and spruce rings which are freshly made to order.

We are not currently open to the public but we welcome visitors by appointment and will always try to help and advise customers.

Please contact us if you have any queries or special requests

Formally my grandfather’s market garden, my love of horticulture was instilled in me from an early age through growing and harvesting cut flowers, vegetables and soft fruit. It was a family affair with everyone helping out.

My love of climbers and nursery stock was born when I started work for John Vanderplank who, at the time, had been awarded the national collection of Passiflora. The years work experience, lasted 17 years, this, together with studying at Cannington horticultural college gave me a wide knowledge of horticulture. During this time I continued growing on the market garden and, upon the death of my grandfather I returned home to set up the nursery with Toni O’Connor. Life soon became hectic, erecting greenhouses and poly tunnels as well as attending major flower shows. To this day my first love is propagation. The delight in raising a mature plant from seeds or cuttings is a truly rewarding experience.

Roy Lancaster, The acclaimed horticulturalist, once said to me on a visit to the nursery, that horticulture offers many rewards and opportunities of travel, learning, history and friendship. How right he was.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank John and Penny Vanderplank, friends and members of the Plant Heritage society and our loyal customers, for all their kind help and encouragement and for their donations of a rare plants and seeds. It is greatly appreciated. Also a big thank you to Toni, My parents and Trish, without whose patience and support none of this would have happened. Jane Lindsay
