We try to keep things simple at the nursery and in tune with the environment. We grow mainly herbaceous perennials, with a focus on more unusual varieties and harder to find plants. We also grow a lot of natives and plants that can be seen in the gardens here, including favourites such as trilliums, erythroniums, epimediums and a range of ferns. We also have seasonal bedding, bulbs and a collection of shrubs and trees.

All of our plants are grown in peat-free compost and we try to use chemicals as infrequently as possible. We also grow our plants tough, by which we mean without supplementary light or heat, so that they are ready to go straight out and into the garden.

as we grow in small numbers and are finding new and exciting things to grow all the time.

The Gardens

of King John’s Lodge are as beautiful as they are tranquil, and have captured the hearts of many a garden writer, both in the UK and abroad. With the stunning house as its backdrop, the grounds boast formal lawns with a fountain and lily pond, a wild garden with ancient apple trees, and a meadow.
